A "special comment"

Hey, one more thing.

A note about Obama's choice of Rick Warren to head the invocation at the inauguration....

At first I was appalled by this choice. It thought it was a horrible thank you gesture to all the liberals who worked so hard for him during the campaign. I mean really, this guy seems a little intolerant, to say the least.

But then I started thinking. I have always thought that tolerance is the backbone of liberalism. So maybe Obama is making one of his most liberal moves by including Warren. To tolerate people who are intolerant. Apparently this guy does some good things, as well as bad. But I dunno. I guess in my heart of hearts I think this is a bad move. But maybe it really doesn't matter. Warren will get his fifteen minutes of fame, and then he will be gone. He will have no part in the governing administration.

What do you think about this?

Yeah, this is a tough one. I can see both sides of it. I agree that it is in line with Obama's idea that he wants his administration to be totally inclusive, to try and bridge this enormous chasm that has ripped the country in half. But the inauguration is the launch of his administration. I understand wanting a dialogue with people of opposing viewpoints, but to invite someone who is this backwards-assed to the actual launch of the presidency? This icon of ignorance? A little hard to swallow. But my hope is that some of the right-wingers might be more open to Obama because of it.
